It's been years in the making! Now, at long last the Guide to the HAP Standard in Humanitarian Accountability and Quality Management is available.
9 March : HAP says that accountability to refugees will foster a culture of protection
The 2008 UNHCR/NGO retreat on refugee protection considered the issue of accountability for protection delivery. The HAP Director argued that agencies that improve their accountability to refugees will automatically foster a "culture of protection" that will benefit all parties. 28 February : Complaints Response Mechanism Training in Malawi
In Lilongwe, Malawi, HAP collaborated with DanChurchAid to run a 2 day Complaints Response Mechanism workshop at DanChurchAid's office during the first week of February 2008. DanChurchAid invited local and international partners, such as Evangelical Lutheran Development Services (ELDS), Church Action in Relief and Development (CARD), Action by Churches Together (ACT) Malawi Forum, and Christian Aid to participate not only in the workshop, but also to join together the day after the workshop to help design in detail a pilot complaints response mechanism. ELDS will consult with beneficiary communities about the mechanism before setting it up in collaboration with DanChurchAid in the near future.

14 December : HAP Pakistan / Sphere Joint Seminar
On October 30th, 2007, HAP and Sphere held a joint seminar “From earthquake to floods: have humanitarian interventions become more accountable and of better standard?" The report of the seminar includes the proceedings of the day and the recommendations gathered from staff of I/NGOs, the panel of disaster survivors and the audience.
