Memo of Understanding between People in Aid and HAP International
In recognition of our shared commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of organisations working in the humanitarian sector, particularly through the offer of certification, HAP and People in Aid believe that the more we collaborate the more successfully we will achieve our missions and increase our impact to improve the humanitarian sector.
To this end we have agreed on the following principles:
1. the complementarities between our organisations (membership, certification, support to NGOs) allow us to undertake joint work to enhance our separate missions;
2. we will jointly make our members, our donors and our other stakeholders aware of the benefits of the joint work we agree to undertake;
3. we will consult with each other when a significant opportunity for collaboration develops that will result in greater good than could be accomplished by acting alone;
4. we will be intentional about looking for opportunities to work together;
5. we will model respect, cooperation, patience, and good humor in our relationship with each other;
6. we recognise that out relationship is non-exclusive, and each organisation is free to partner with others;
7. This Memo of Understanding reflects a shared aspiration rather than any implied obligation.

Staff share learning from the three-month HAP deployment during an inter-agency workshop, Sri Lanka Oct 2009
"To my mind the stand out success of the Lanka Tsunami program was "Accountability". It was obvious from the quantitative and qualitative evaluation data that the ops teams learned from, and worked hard to, include accountability standards into each implementation stage resulted in far greater community satisfaction and ownership with outputs. It was great to see happy stakeholders with realistic expectations being met rather than just people who woke up one day with a house, latrine or well (somewhat begrudgingly in some cases)."
