Building Safer Organizations networks
The BSO project provides agencies with opportunities to interact specifically on the subject of preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and abuse by humanitarian workers.
Vision
BSO networks are self-sustaining, regionally-focused and diverse coalitions of NGOs working to improve SEA prevention and response strategies in their organizations and in other organizations.
Activities
BSO's networks:
- improve the uniformity of mechanisms to prevent and respond to SEA
- enable trained investigators to support each other and exchange advice on good practice
- maintain awareness of issues surrounding sexual abuse and exploitation amongst humanitarian agencies
- enable more humanitarian workers to participate in BSO and HAP training
- broaden the number of advocates promoting appropriate prevention and response strategies
Locations
BSO has a long standing relationship with existing networks in Kenya and the United States, supplementing their programs with training. It is currently developing relationships in the Middle East by conducting a study of current organizational competencies to determine where a network would be in highest demand.

"People know from the manyatas, maybe their elders have told them, that so and so has been selected [as a beneficiary] but when they saw the names [on the notice board] they were satisfied and knew it was true, and everything was confirmed. And the person selected knew they were among the group."
