Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard

Interim Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard

The Guide to the HAP Standard explains how to use the HAP Standard in Accountability and Quality Management. It gives practical advice on how agencies can meet the HAP Standard and what they need to implement in order to be certified. It is aimed at senior managers, programme staff, facilitators and trainers. It is also relevant to individuals and organisations generally interested in accountability and quality management.

Following the publication of the 2010 HAP Standard in Accountability and Quality Management (pdf, 777 Kb) in January 2011, HAP International has started aligning its resources against the new 2010 HAP Standard. An Interim Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard in Accountability and Quality Management has been produced in response to the need and the demand for a supporting document to the new Standard. A more comprehensive document that will serve as the final Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard is currently being developed and will be available by end of 2011.

The Interim Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard (pdf, 928 Kb) includes case studies, tools and other relevant materials, which have been tested in the field and have proved useful in strengthening the implementation of quality and accountability in relief and development work. These materials are organised under each specific benchmark and links to the HAP website, where these materials can be found, have been added.

Some of the case studies, tools and other materials listed in the Interim Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard still refer to the 2007 HAP Standard. However, they continue to be relevant and useful. While there are changes in the ordering of the benchmarks and in the terms used, the aim and essence of the 2010 HAP Standard and its benchmarks remain consistent with the previous one. The resources can be used with minor adaptations and clarifications on the new Standard.

If you would like to receive further details about the Guide to the 2010 HAP Standard, or should your organisation wish to share a case study or tool which highlights how accountability has been strengthened within the organisation, please contact the HAP Secretariat: secretariat@hapinternational.org

The HAP Standard offers a useful way to distinguish good practice from good rhetoric in the humanitarian sector.
