HAP 2007 Standard
The HAP 2007 Standard
The HAP 2007 Standard in Humanitarian Accountability and Quality Management is a quality assurance tool for humanitarian organisations. By comparing an organisation's processes, policies and products to the Standard, it is possible to measure how well the organisation assures quality and accountability in its humanitarian work.
Agencies that comply with the Standard:
- declare their commitment to HAP’s Principles of Humanitarian Action and to their own Humanitarian Accountability Framework and develop a management system that enables the implementation of these commitments
- provide key information about quality management to key stakeholders
- enable beneficiaries and their representatives to participate in programme decisions and give their informed consent
- determine the competencies and development needs of staff
- establish and implement complaints-handling systems
-
establish a process of continual improvement
The HAP 2007 Standard (English) is also available in:
Amharic, Bahasa, Creole (Haiti), French, Georgian, Myanmar (Burmese)
Sinhala, Spanish, Tamil, and Urdu
The Six benchmarks, contained within the Standard, have been translated into Arabic.
Note that the English version is the master from which all translations derive, and if you have any comments about a translation you should contact us at: secretariat@hapinternational.org or translation's authors whenever possible.
"In my field work, I saw humanitarian action at its best - heroism, courage, creativity, flexibility - but also at its worst: lack of understanding, respect for the mission and the beneficiaries. Humanitarian action does not exist for our sake. We are involved because we want to protect, rebuild, and restore. Human beings must be at the centre of our responsibilities."
